2011-2012 sessions will be held at Mondays’s at 9.30H in the CEB amphitheatre
Our department weekly seminars aims to provide a forum of discussion and dissemination of knowledge for young researchers. In each session it’s expected to have 2 to 3 different talks, so time is very limited. Several topologies of presentations are expected to occur: 1st year PhD students presentations, Troubleshooting presentations, Results presentation, Pre-Doctoral Defenses, Post-doc lectures, Visiting Researcher talks, Faculty Lectures and Other presentations.
1st Year PhD students presentations
A short 5-8 min talk where the student will present the proposed PhD plan. Due to the current high number of PhD students, these type of talks have low priority in terms of schedule.
Troubleshooting presentation
When a student first start to do experiments, its reasonable to assume that the student will face some problems implementing the experimental techniques. Early stage students are stimulated to talk about their main problems facing a specific technique, and in this way the audience can help troubleshooting.
Results presentation
More advanced PhD students (3rd to 4th year) can present part of their results in a 10-12 min talk. This types or presentations are mandatory to be in English.
Pre-doctoral defenses
Senior students can request to do a 20 min presentation a few weeks before their formal PhD defense. These presentations are normally booked in advanced but highly subject to changes in the dates, since most students will only be aware of the formal PhD defense date in short notice.
Post-doc lecture
Post-doc fellows can also do 10-20 min presentations of their current or past research topics. This type of presentation should be implemented when a new post-doc join CEB coming from a different research centre.
Visiting researcher
Since CEB often receives visiting researchers, if willing, the visiting researchers can do a 10-20 min presentation of their current research topics.
Faculty lecture
Occasionally CEB Faculty will do a talk regarding issues of interest for the CEB community or even a scientific lecture.
Other presentation
Breakfast at CEB also host other types of short talks, normally done by researchers but with a broad range of topics.
